About
Gig rowing has evolved over the years and is now a competitive and recreational sport with clubs across Cornwall, Devon, the Isles of Scilly, and beyond. Crews race in coastal waters, sometimes in sheltered harbours, sometimes out on open seas.
Paignton Amateur Rowing Club offers gig rowing from beginners to experienced rowers, and our club is right on Paignton Harbour - what better location to row the coastal seas of Torbay and beyond!

WHAT IS GIG ROWING?
Gig rowing is a type of coastal rowing that uses a "pilot gig", a long, narrow, fixed seat, six-oared wooden boat traditionally built from Cornish designs.

It’s known for teamwork, power, and endurance, as well as the dramatic scenery and challenging coastal conditions.
