SKIFF ROWING
Skiff fine boat rowing is a competitive or recreational sport, loved for its speed, elegance, and the smooth, almost gliding feeling it gives when mastered.
Known by many names, skiff, fine boat, racing skiff, Thames skiff rowing, this style of rowing is suited to flatter coastal waters, lakes and rivers - making Paignton Amateur Rowing Club perfectly positioned for harbourside drills, coastal waters or the near by river Dart or Teign on more blustery days.

WHAT IS SKIFF ROWING?
It’s a style of rowing using long, narrow, lightweight racing shells designed for flat or calm water, where rowers use either one or two oars to achieve maximum speed and efficiency.
-
Sculling is rowing where each rower uses two oars, one in each hand.
-
Sweep rowing is rowing where each rower uses one oar, held with both hands, and rows on either the port or starboard side.
There are multiple boat options for skiff rowing at Paignton, including Single scull, Double (scull), Pair (sweep), Coxed Quad (scull), Coxed Four (sweep), Eight (sweep).
